BEIJING (Asian Metal) 31 Jul 13 – In the first half of 2013, silver price dropped sharply and continuously against the previous years’ laws, down to RMB3,700/kg in June from RMB6,500/kg in January and down by 43%
. Silver smelters in China suffered great losses with the decreasing prices, and had to adjust silver production, and main silver smelters’ output in first half of 2013 decreased by above 10% . The downstream factories, especially firms that produce intermediate silver product ran at losses in the past months of 2013 . Firstly, Chinese economy growth slows down with poor household appliances consumption under volatile estate market; secondly, Chinese photovoltaic products in Europe confronted policy constraints and many photovoltaic firms withdraw from the industry under pessimistic outlook; thirdly, many small-sized silver consumption enterprises went bankrupt with thin profits and high risks .
